As of today, a School Street is in operation on the western half of Montpelier Road. This means that no vehicular traffic is permitted to enter the street between 8.00 - 9.30 am and 2.00 - 4.00 pm, and these driving restrictions will be enforced using camera technology.
Vehicles used in the transport of children with special mobility needs, including private vehicles, taxis and minicabs declared for such use, can obtain a permit to drive into the road during the restricted times. Where a parent has a mobility need and the child is unable to walk unaccompanied from a drop-off point just outside the zone, then a permanent or temporary permit may also be granted. Parents of children with special mobility needs should talk to the school in the first instance.
Residents with entrances within the zone are eligible for a permit and should have been contacted already by letter with guidance on how to apply.
I understand that in order to fairly enable residents and drivers to familiarise themselves with the scheme, the scheme will not be enforced during its first month of operation. Instead, an advisory warning notice will be issued to remind drivers.
Please contact [email protected] for further information about the scheme.
