Purley Food Stop has moved back to its newly refurbished permanent shop at Old Lodge Lane Baptist Church.
Pastor Nick Graves of Old Lodge Lane Baptist Church gave me a tour of the new facility just before its opening last Friday.
Old Lodge Lane Baptist Church has partnered with Croydon Council and the food charity Fare Share to support people in times of difficulty and crisis to set up the Purley Food Stop. The Food Stop is a community-led, multi-agency model that seeks to help people in the community to become more financially stable by providing a range of practical support and advocacy through partners and its own ‘in house’ support team. Between us, Cllr Kolade and I volunteer at the Food Stop twice a month and very much enjoy getting to know the community and offer support where we can. Pastor Nick and his team give amazing support to the community and are inspirational.
The new location of the Food Stop is in the Old Lodge Lane Community Hub. The refurbishment of the hub has just been completed as part of the 'Connecting Kenley Programme' funded by the Mayor of London’s Good Growth Fund. Kenley Memorial Hall has similarly been refurbished as part of the project. Both hubs are community assets and available for hire for events.
