Council waives road closure fees across the Jubilee weekend
Croydon Council has announced it will waive road closure fees for Jubilee Big Lunches taking place over the extended 2-5 June bank holiday weekend.
Residents across the borough will be able to join together for street parties without usual closure fees and are urged to get applications for their Jubilee Big Lunch to the council to confirm arrangements.
The Platinum Jubilee will celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s 70-year reign since the 1950s - the longest-serving UK monarch ever.
Big Lunches started in 2009 to get as many UK residents as possible to join their neighbours annually in a simple act of community, friendship and fun. This year’s lunches provide the perfect chance to bring communities together in the aftermath of Covid-19, enjoy the long weekend and mark a historic national occasion.
The council will review all applications, with some restrictions including no permitted road closures on bus routes, licensing requirements and specified event hours.
Full details and an events application form can be found on the council website.
The deadline for Jubilee Big Lunch applications is Friday 6 May.
