Purley is only just recovering from the 3 weeks of repair works on the Godstone Road which was caused by a series of gas leaks, and I regret to report that SESW has now closed Smitham Downs Road, and this is likely to last till the weekend. Please read on...
Due to an emergency lead pipe replacement, SESW have closed Smitham Downs Road between its junction with The Vale and Brighton Road. SESW endeavour to be completed on 26/09/2022. However due to the nature of emergency works this may change. If so an update will be sent.

I'm really sorry about this - obviously emergencies are emergencies, but it's very unfortunate that they didn't happen during the school holidays...
