After three and half year as councillor in wonderful Purley Oaks & Riddlesdown ward, I am thrilled to announce that I have been selected as a Conservative candidate for the 2022 local elections in Sanderstead where I now live.
In these past three and a half year in Purley Oaks & Riddlesdown I have handled hundreds of items of resident’s casework, objected to many inappropriate planning applications and dealt with issues from sourcing mental health help to suitable housing. It has been a privilege to have had the opportunity to help in my neighbour’s lives in this way.
On a larger scale, finally the flood alleviation work in Riddlesdown is being completed although even now it is not without hiccups, and the campaign that I ran with children’s centre staff, local parents and school children forced the Council to rethink their plan to close Purley Oaks Children Centre. Both of these projects have the potential to have a long time positive impact.
I am delighted that the new candidates for Purley Oaks & Riddlesdown, Endri Llabuti and Alasdair Stewart are on board. I know that they will really get stuck in and will want to do their absolute best for the ward. We’ve already been meeting to discuss how they can contribute to life in the ward and I am sure that they would be pleased to hear from local residents.
I am very fortunate to be able to stand in Sanderstead where I live, where my children have attended school and where we attend church. It will be great to get started on Sanderstead casework and sadly, I suspect, objecting to just as many inappropriate planning applications. What we really need is more local services to match the increase in homes in our neighbourhood.
I am delighted that I will be joining councillors Lynne Hale and Yvetter Hopley who I respect greatly and who so many of you will know already through the amazing work they do locally for the community and within the Shadow Cabinet. I will do my best to match the quality of service that they have offered over many years.
