I'm delighted to report that after many years (literally!) of negotiation, the Purley fire station will now also double as a base for the local police.
Amazingly, the previous system was that our local police, even if they actually lived in Purley, had to travel to New Addington to sign on for their shifts and collect their kit, uniforms etc, and then travel back to Purley before they could be productive on the beat. This wasted a HUGE number of shift hours every day, especially as some of them had to travel by bus etc.
The Purley Safer Neighbourhood Teams have been campaigning for years to get a base established in Purley, and I'm absolutely delighted that this has now happened.
