New Medical Centre for Coulsdon takes MAJOR step forward: Council approves NHS bid for car park site
Many residents in Coulsdon will be aware of the NHS’ long-held plans to build a new medical centre, including a GP surgery, on the car park adjacent to 41 Malcolm Road. Your local MP Chris Philp, alongside Croydon Mayor Jason Perry and the five Conservative Councillors for Coulsdon Town & Old Coulsdon, have been working hard for some time now to bring forward these plans and turn them into reality.
A short while ago, the Council advertised the site on the open market - a legal requirement to ensure the Council’s financial duties were met. The NHS was kept informed throughout, and was able to place its bid for the site.
The deadline for bids has since passed and we are pleased to announce that Council Officers will now progress Heads of Terms and contract exchange with the NHS. This acquisition of the land by the NHS represents a major step forward for the Medical Centre, and the NHS will now work up a planning application for the new Medical Centre which will be submitted to Croydon Council in the usual way.
The NHS will also continue to hold a long lease on the neighbouring CALAT site, for use as a Dialysis Centre.
Jason Perry, Mayor of Croydon, said:
“Residents have been waiting for these medical centre plans to come to fruition for a long time now. We’re delighted to have delivered this important progress, despite the efforts of some local agitators to destabilise the process.
“I’d like to thank the hard work of Council Officers who have ensured that these plans will now move at pace. I would also like to thank Chris Philp MP who has been tirelessly lobbying for improved health services in our Borough, alongside local Councillors Mario Creatura, Ian Parker and Luke Shortland.”
