A couple of years ago I met with Helen a tree officer in the Council to discuss much needed improvements for South Croydon Recreation Ground. We discussed some tree planting but since then the Labour Council bankrupted the Council and Covid 19 pandemic struck last year. The Friends of South Croydon Recreation Ground had also recently requested some tree planting. The possibility of new tree planting seemed very unlikely.
However as part of the Tokyo Olympic Games the Japanese Society invited councils to apply for a supply of cherry trees typical of Japan and ideal for parks and avenues. Thanks to Helen and the Japanese Society South Croydon Recreation Ground should have ten new cherry trees.
Fingers crossed for the Tokyo Olympic Games and tree planting in South Croydon Recreation Ground in 2021
