It has been another exciting period to be the Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture in Croydon. It was a great pleasure to join with the team at Croydon Drop In and Cllr. Yvette Hopley at the launch their new talk bus in North End recently. This charity does such great work supporting and providing Counselling for Croydon’s Young people.
Last Sunday it was an new experience for me to join with Jo and George at Stanley Arts as they performed the ‘Rest of Our Lives’ a thought provoking and inspirational piece that even got me on the dance floor (something you won’t see very often)!!!
Then it was a privilege to join with the great GLL team and Cllr. Robert Ward and Jason Cummings to celebrate the opening of the gym at Monks Hill Sports Centre. This is a great new facility and complements the range of activities that already goes on at the Sports Centre alongside the excellent facilities at the Quest Schools and the Community facilities at the Lighthouse at St. Francis Church.
On Friday I dropped in at Pop in Pete’s pop up shop at Centrale and took part in the 50 year celebration of Hip Hop Music. Finally it was back to Stanley Halls to celebrate the latest phase of their regeneration project that has made the outside of the building much more welcoming to the community with new gates, railings and lighting. Again another great example of partnership working with the Council, Historic England and of course the vision of Dan and his team at Stanley Arts.
