On Saturday I organised a Litter Pick Session at Milne Park, in New Addington. It was fantastic to see so many members of the local community coming out to help clear the local area of litter, including a number of families and their kids!
Our campaign day was a part of the "Keep Britain Tidy Campaign", a fantastic initiative to encourage local communities across the country, to take pride in their area, and rid it of litter.
I am a strong believer in the "Broken Windows Theory", with the continued efforts to rid a community of litter/fly-tipping, it does make a different to the area in the long-term, It was great to see our younger generation excited to play their part and clear the area of litter!
New Addington is very fortunate to have a very passionate community, a large section of the community in New Addington already takes pride in the area and it's appearance. After speaking to a number people in the area, it is clear that real efforts are regularly made to keep it's green spaces, and pathways clear of rubbish and fly-tipping. These efforts will eventually have a knock on effect, and help slow the sad cycle of people not having respect for their community and littering etc in the area as they should.
The Croydon Conservatives will be holding a number further of Litter Pick Sessions across the borough soon, to help encourage and spread this positive attitude across the borough!
I will announce the details of future planned Litter Pick sessions once the details have been confirmed.
Let's all play our part and keep our community free of litter and fly-tipping!
If you need any assistance with anything relating to Litter or Fly-tipping within your community in Croydon, please send me the details to: [email protected].
Thank you.
