I often attend the regular MENCAP meetings where I have the chance to listen to important issues raised by its members. The Sanderstead councillors recently made to donation to fund a trip to Harry Potter World from their community ward budget. However, this plan was frustrated by Covid-19. Alan Avis CEO wrote: “As time elapsed and it became apparent that it would be some time before we would be able to organise an outing, so we took the decision to use your donation in another way. As our members were spending a great deal of time at home we have provided Activity Packs. Your donation enabled us to include extra treats in these multi-activity pack which we delivered to our members’ homes. These included jigsaw puzzles, arts and crafts materials and a few edible surprises.
The packs have been warmly welcomed and greatly enjoyed, not only by people with learning disabilities, but by their parents/carers who, at times, struggle to find meaningful, engaging activities for their loved one. Thank you for this thoughtful gift which has gone a long way in helping our members to cope with the Covid restrictions”.
We are delighted that we have been able to help MENCAP in some small way with these activity packs – Cllr Yvette Hopley
