Marie Curie came in to talk to The Mayor, myself and officers about how they could support End of Life Care for residents in Croydon. It is important that we work with the Integrated Care Board and all other partners in ensuring that the statutory duties relating to palliative and end of life care are embedded in our whole system approach.
Approximately 2,640 deaths in Croydon in 2022 were due to the ageing population, and that number is due to increase to 3,200 by 2043. We know that this number has increased from the last Census. An estimated 600 people in Croydon do not receive the palliative and end of life care they need. I am committed to improve this. Whilst it is important that we all live well it is vitally important that when that time comes we also have the opportunity to die well and our wishes are respected.
We are all fully supportive of the good work Marie Curie do here in the borough and further afield.
