In a depressingly familiar pattern permission was granted for the the demolition of 3 Croham Valley Road and the erection of a huge five storey building of seven flats. Again as usual it was voted through by the Labour majority on the Planning Committee and voted against by the Conservative minority.
So many blocks with different designs have now been granted that the character of Croham Valley Road is being eroded. The intensification of development is putting pressure on parking and increases the concerns on flooding. This local area is prone to flooding and the removal of trees and suburban gardens does not help.
The granted application will affect two roads both Croham Valley Road and Ballards Farm Road
The design described by Croydon Council as bold and interesting is particularly jarring on Ballards Farm Rd that is semi rural with gardens merging into thick woodland and Greenbelt to the north.
My concerns as referring councillor and that of the residents representative were ignored by the Labour majority on the committee
The intensification of development continued later on in the evening as permission was granted for another block at 8 Croham Valley Road.
