A popular local business in the centre of Coulsdon today got in touch with me after being seemingly turned down for a Covid support grant - without any justification being given.
Covid has hit many local businesses very hard. They took the opportunities given by the central government to apply for financial support by submitting several applications with Croydon Council since the November 2020 lockdown started.
They have all been refused, with no justification and no right to appeal.
On speaking to a Council Officer, they were advised to apply for a different grant. This they did, but it was also refused despite including information from their accountant detailing their lost earnings.
The Government has clearly issued these funds to support struggling businesses to stay afloat - that this Labour administration appears to be erecting needless barriers to that support is not acceptable.
I've contacted senior Council officers requesting an urgent explanation for the refusal and a wider review of the case. Hopefully it will be rectified in the very near future.
If you or a business you know is struggling to get through to the Council, then please don't hesitate to get in touch and I'll do my best to help.
