UPDATE 8th June 2023
The works on the bridge have been put on hold until the week beginning 31st July 2023. This is because there is an issue with erecting the scaffold in a way that won't damage trees on the site that have a tree preservation order on them.
Network Rail will provide an updated timetable for the works in due course.

Network Rail have informed the council that the Little Roke Footbridge will be closing for several months due to urgent refurbishment works.
As a busy route to school for Harris Primary and Hayes school, this will cause some disruption, so please note the information below from Network Rail and plan your journey accordingly.

Structural Improvement work – Little Roke Footbridge
We’re writing to let you know that we urgently need to carry out refurbishment works on Little Roke Footbridge. A footpath diversion will be required to be in place during these works. These essential maintenance works are required as part of the asset management to ensure the safety of members of the public and the safe passage of trains across the network.
The works will include the grit blasting and painting of the bridge, concrete repairs and minor drainage works helping to maintain the bridge’s structural integrity for years to come. The works will be carried out inside encapsulated scaffold so you may not always be able to see us working but we are attempting to complete these works in a timely fashion to a high standard minimizing disruption to yourselves and the local community.
Specially selected hand tools will be used to minimize the noise created, however due to the nature of the work, some disturbance will be unavoidable. Our colleagues working on site are fully briefed on working responsibly in the local community. We’re sorry for the inconvenience this essential work may cause you.
Works are due to start on the 21st May 2023 and are expected to be completed by 17th October 2023. Our working hours will be Monday to Friday from 07:00 to 17:30 and overnight from 22:00-06:00 and during some line closures of the railway as listed below.
Work will take place over a 24hr period as follows during weekend line closures of the railway:
Please note these can be subject to change.
Delivering the highest standards of safety is paramount to our work and keeping people safe on and around the railway is at the heart of everything we do. Often, work needs to be carried out while trains aren’t running. We’re obliged to work, whenever possible, at times that cause the least disruption to train services. This means carrying out a lot of our improvements during the night and at weekends.
