Last week the Labour controlled planning committee approved the construction of a poorly designed block of 9 flats at 49 Selborne Road. This will replace the lovely existing detached family home. The area around Selborne Road, Deepdene Avenue and Lyndhurst Close consists of detached and semi-detached properties, so this block of flats will be totally out of character with the neighbourhood. Further the proposed design of the building will do nothing to enhance the character of the area.
Nearly 50 local residents wrote to the Council strongly objecting to the building, and they spoke passionately against the development at the committee meeting. Yet their views were completely ignored by the 6 Labour on the committee. In fact, 2 Labour members agreed that the development was poorly designed yet supported granting it planning permission. All 4 Conservative members on the committee agreed with residents and voted against the development.
Under Labour the destruction of Park Hill continues, and the only way to stop this is to vote for a Conservative Council in Croydon in 2022.
