Kenley has a great network of regular litter pickers, supplemented by group sessions organised by KENDRA. I often speak to residents litter picks and rubbish bags in hand who are doing their bit to keep Kenley beautiful by picking up the rubbish dropped by others - thank you to each and every one of you community stars.
I'd like to invite Kenley residents to join in the nation's largest clean-up event, the Great British Spring Clean. This annual event is organised by Keep Britain Tidy and builds on the outstanding work of Street Champions like the people in the photos above. The Great British Spring Clean will run until 4 April, and participants can pledge to pick litter as either individuals or groups.
Pupils and staff are also invited to join in and pledge to pick litter around their schools, as part of the Great Big School Clean.
The council provides the loan of equipment – litter-picking tools, high vis, and bags – free of charge to participants, subject to availability.
Those wishing to participate in this year’s event can visit Keep Britain Tidy’s website to register their pledge, and then send an email to [email protected] notifying the council of the desired locations, times and dates of their litter picks. Organisers will be then contacted to arrange equipment rental pick-up.
You can also become a regular 'Street Champion'. The Street Champions are a network of residents who have volunteered to improve the environment in our local area. Find out more at Street Champions | Croydon Council.
