On Monday evening, I joined Mayor Perry for the Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards at Fairfield Halls.
The Jack Petchey Foundation was set up by Sir Jack Petchey to inspire and motivate young people across London and Essex to do their best and reach their full potential and this award scheme is a reward and recognition initiative which celebrates schools and youth organisations to celebrate the achievements of their young people and receive additional funding.
Over 10,000 young people receive an Achievement Award for their efforts every year. Additionally, Leader Awards are also given to adults who have demonstrated an ability to encourage and motivate young people.
Following Mayor Perry’s keynote address, it was great to see so many young people and their inspirational leaders receive awards as well as listen to some excellent performances from two talented young people.
It was a little surreal for me as over 20 years ago, I was on that very stage performing and receiving awards. Flash forwards two decades later and I’m giving out medallions for the first time as Deputy Cabinet Member for Children and Young People!
Well done to the following schools which participated:
- Rutherford School
- St Giles Schools
- Serenity School Croydon
