One of the benefits of living in South Croydon is our rich local history. The local archives as well as local history books contain a variety of old photographs of our local area.
During lockdown, we’ve managed to discover many old photos of our beautiful local area.
The image shown here is the old Swan and Sugarloaf pub on Brighton Road, near the Restaurant Quarter. It’s lovely to see this piece of local history.
It’s fascinating to see the sign for “teas, luncheons & dinners” and the many cyclists.
The glass dome above the staircase to the upstairs rooms and the railings above the main door are sadly no longer present.
