I know many residents are disappointed that the hedges and shrubs in the borough have not been maintained by the council. Some Friends' Groups have helped with this work, where they can. However, a number of very large hedges are now crossing the pavement and are completely entwined with ivy and stinging nettles. I was surprised to receive a response from the council stating that it could be as late as March before any work is undertaken by operatives. This is the response:
"At the moment all our resources are geared towards grass cutting. We intend to carry this on until early December or when ground/weather conditions stop us. From then the intention is to catch up with all the hedge cutting and removing of epicormic growth on trees that would normally have been dealt with over the summer period. Due to the volume of hedges needing attention we may well be carrying out hedge cutting through to late February or even early March."
