BONFIRE PARTY 9am – 3pm
As last year, we have collected during our work parties an enormous amount of timber, too much to burn in one day. Rekindling the fire on the following day was considered, but a better solution was suggested and that is to chip the remainder to provide mulch to be placed around our specimen trees and saplings and to experiment in repairing parts of the top paths where exposed tree roots have created slip and trip hazard.
Lighting the bonfire will be at 9am on Saturday the 12th and continue until 3pm. Whatever is left will be chipped for us by a professional tree surgeon at a later date. Naturally it isn’t expected that everyone is there the whole time, so as usual, drop by when and for as long as you like.
Safety is paramount and a perimeter rope will be in place to stop anybody getting too close. It is important that the fire is managed properly and occasionally it will be requested that no more timber is added to the fire, please don’t ignore this request. The fire will be left in a safe and secure manner and monitored over the following 24 hours.
Please bring loppers and bow saws if you have them, although we do have a stock in our Green Room. There is plenty to do, so lots of helpers of all ages are required.
There are always hot embers floating down so it is important that everybody wears clothing that doesn’t matter if an ember lands on them and also a hat of some description should be worn for the same reason.
Advanced notice of the AGM which will be held on Thursday 24th November, in St Mary’s Church, the agenda will follow with the Autumn newsletter.
Looking forward to seeing as many of our members on the 12th as possible.
