Over the last few weeks I've been speaking to the local park groups about ways we may be able to enhance our green spaces and improve the facilities available.
I think its really important in the months ahead, as we work to recover from the pandemic, that the Park Hill and Whitgift community has access to clean, safe, accessible spaces which promote increased physical activity and can help to tackle mental health issues.
As a result of this I've been in contact with the London Cricket Trust. The London Cricket Trust works to provide new cricket facilities in London parks - aiming to make it accessible, and promote social inclusion for everyone in the community.
The Cricket Trust does this in a range of ways by providing nets, pitches and equipment.
I was pleased to initially be told that looking at the space available in Park Hill and Whitgift that the options would be a new net facility in Park Hill Park or a new non-turf pitch in Lloyd Park.
This morning I was pleased to be updated that there was good feedback from Surrey Cricket regarding Park Hill Park and Lloyd Park and that the Trust would be happy to add these to our list of potential sites in 2022.
The Trust let me know that they are still hard at work completing the 2021 sites but from September/October we will begin to turn their attention to the next projects.
Once they've reviewed the full list they will get back to me with an update on how things may or may not progress.
I'm hopeful we may be able to secure some new facilities for everyone in the community and will keep you updated.
