Since the summer, Cllr Brew and I have been working with the Purley BID on getting necessary repair works carried out following a ceiling collapse in the Downlands Precinct over the summer.
As this is private land, our hands were clearly tied from a Council-perspective and we have all been very frustrated with the landowner for not undertaking works in a timely manner. The passageway has been shut since August and has affected local businesses, particularly local florist and plant shop, Garden Scent.
The Purley BID has chased many times and finally got a reply from the landowner assuring us that boarding was finished on Friday 15th December, that this week rendering will take place. The repair works will then need to dry over Christmas and then the contractors will be back on site in the first-week of January to paint and carry out electrical works.
We are sorry that this saga has taken longer than expected and hope everything will be finished in a timely manner. We are also very grateful to the Purley BID for their perseverance with this.
