Higher Drive and its offshoot roads now have about 6 active building sites and, very sadly for the residents, two or three more are likely to start up shortly. It's very important that the developers obey the rules which are there so as to ensure minimum disruption to local residents, but many developers flout the rules and the Council is currently in such a weakened state because of its effective bankruptcy that it's difficult to get enforcement action started.
A local resident complained to me that one active site currently has no hoardings around it, which means that young children could wander onto the site and cause serious mischief, both to themselves and to the site. This is a Health & Safety issue and therefore falls under the HSE, whose excellent website hse.gov.uk provides clear instructions on what to do, an online reporting form, and also a phone number. The HSE has the power to shut sites down with zero notice if they become aware of dangerous situations, so I urged the resident to report the issue immediately.
They also have a problem of pollution arising from the excessive dust being generated at the site; this falls under the Croydon pollution team, so again I was able to provide some contact details.
