Coulsdon and Old Coulsdon Councillors met with NHS representatives this last week for an update on progress for the exciting new Coulsdon Health Centre. Developers and architects were also present. Following consultations with and feedback from Croydon’s Place Review Panel (local experts in planning, architecture and much more) modifications have been made to the design of the Centre. A significant change is access to the Centre from Malcolm Road rather than Woodcote Grove Road.
There’s a lot to take in regarding design, layout, space required for the many facilities to be provided for the benefit of Coulsdon residents. It is of course important that these matters are considered carefully and that the design and layout are right for our area but we are concerned about delays. The design must be, as far as possible, in keeping with the local area (but not looking like the Brick by Brick, Lion Green Road development!) and the facilities provided in line with local demand. We received reassurances in these respects.
The likelihood is that the development will go to Croydon’s Planning Committee. NHS approval sought, legal agreements signed and appointment of a contractor to be actioned as soon as possible. The aim is for work to start early next year. Rest assured we will keep on top of those working to take the Health Centre forward to ensure speedy conclusion of this important new facility for Coulsdon. We will meet again with these key representatives early to mid August.
