Silent Summer Screenings were tonight due to host an open air cinema screening of Back to the Future in Coulsdon Memorial Grounds.
Sadly the organisers have just cancelled it, posting the following message online:
Bad news I’m afraid! We are going to have to cancel the upcoming event. I know it’s not ideal and we are just as disappointed as you are, but with the way infection rates are rising we can’t in good conscience allow these events to go ahead.
We’re watching masses of people being told to self-isolate after large events, even outdoor ones. For this reason, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the event with the interest of keeping everyone safe. Refunds will be issued in full later today.
Thank you for supporting us during this hectic couple of Summer’s. We’re a small wee company and we are really grateful to have such a wonderful community to through this with.
it's a real shame, this is just the sort of fun public event in an open space that the community needs - but of course safety must come first. Given the inclement weather we're currently experiencing this could be a doubly wise decision.
