Richard Beales, the retiring principal of Coulsdon College who attended this evenings Old Coulsdon & Coulsdon Town Police Ward Panel meeting has asked me to forward the following to anyone interested in developing Community Links with the College.
Although a lot of recent interaction with local residents has been regarding the poor behaviour of our students and in particular them not wearing masks in the local shops and on buses, I firmly believe it would be really good for representatives from the community to meet with our new Principal and a group or groups of our students - maybe the recently elected Student Executive - to help develop more community projects (similar to the mural on Coulsdon Bridge; music performances at the old people’s home; involvement in the Old Coulsdon Fair; supporting school sports days – although in the current restrictions we may need to be more creative) and to develop a mutual understanding. As you know, we have some wonderful students many of whom come from challenging and different backgrounds from the local residents but also have high aspirations.
I’m sorry that I won’t be around to take this forward …
It would probably be best if they sent their email address Yvette Fegent [email protected] and a brief indication if they are a representative of a community organisation,.
After the barrage of emails from local shop-keepers and residents, it was good to hear some more supportive and appreciative comments regarding what we are doing as well as and a level of empathy
