I blogged earlier about the dire state of the Council's finances, and, on Remembrance day of all days, this resulted in the issue of a S114 report which bans all but legally essential expenditure, even non-essential expenditure which has previously been budgeted for, such as each councillor's annual Community Ward Budget (CWB).
In association with the Purley BID, I planned to make a contribution from my budget to pay for the re-furbishment of the Purley Fountain which has lain derelict for the last 30 years or so. I was just about to fill in the forms to make this happen, when the axe fell on all non-essential expenditure, so the fountain will now continue to lie derelict for another few years until Labour can sort out their finances, or, even better, until there is a Conservative administration in the Town Hall.
