It seems like only yesterday I was hear speaking at the last emergency debate. Oh dear yet another 114 notice. You just don’t seem to be able to dig yourselves out of this big, deep, dark and dangerous hole. Is that because it is the same people sitting in these seats that got us into this mess in the first place, the same people pulling those strings and making those dire decisions are still here. Time and time we warned you, the auditors warned you and the residents warned you. All ignored and now we are bankrupt looking at yet another 114 notice. Complete incompetence.
So in the midst of all this trauma, let’s take a look at what is happening. As a result of the huge gaping hole, primarily made by your poor decisions within the numerous companies that have not availed themselves such as the hotel and the disaster that is brick by brick it is the elderly, vulnerable and disabled residents in this borough that are taking the hit.
I made a valiant attempt at trying to draw the leader’s attention to the cumulative impact this is having on the most vulnerable here. The opposition will not be shut down on this important issue.
There doesn’t seem to be any analysis of the cumulative impact decisions are having on these residents.
For example:
- The Croydon Accessible Transport contract who have provided transport – contract cut
- Lunch Club Facilities providing food to vulnerable residents – contract cut
- Community Budgets – where councillors provided support to care centres – cut.
- Elderly support by Croydon Voluntary Action – contract cut
- Library Facilities – supporting elderly with IT and other support – cut
- Person Centred Services – cut
- Mental Health Support – cut
- Disability Services – cut
- Welfare Rights – Cut
- Disability Employment Department – cut
And on top of this a 20% cut in care packages.
Croydon and its residents deserve better.
