Cllr. Andy Stranack met with Rev. Helen Stokley (Chief Operating Officer) at Spurgeon's College last week. Andy was delighted to hear that the college had been awarded full degree award making powers earlier this year, which is an important step in the colleges journey to become Croydon's first home grown University in 2024/5.
Andy said "It was great to meet with Helen and some students who were on work experience at the college. Spurgeon's is already reaching out to the local community and hosts the South Norwood and Woodside Lunch club 3 times a week. We had positive discussions about the college offering more secular courses, working in partnership with local organisations and their involvement in the London Borough of Culture in 2023/24. With ambitions to become Croydon's first home grown University I think Spurgeon's will play a key role in the new partnership approach that Croydon is taking to run services."
