I am delighted to inform you that I have been offered a place on The Carers Partnership Board. The Carers Partnership Board is a multi-agency planning and commissioning group for carers’ services. This group plans to build on its developments and achievements with other key stakeholders and will identify and set the priorities for the Carers Strategy.
The Care Act 2014 sought to not only simplify and amend the carer’s legislation that already exists, but to extend carers and parent carers rights to a carer’s assessment. Importantly, this means that the Council will now have a duty to provide services to a Carer.
Carers organisations have raised the profile of carers and parent carers issues in the media and in government through effective lobbying. This has resulted in increasing carer focused legislation as policy makers, government and those in professional practice have become more aware of carers and the important contribution they make to society.
This is a very exciting opportunity to shape policy going forward and improve life for the many carers here in the Borough of Croydon.
