When driving round Purley, I was struck by the appalling condition of the Bridle Road which many use as a cut-through to Foxley Lane.
I raised this with Council officers back in December and was told that following an inspection, the Highway Inspector reported that the road was in a “fair condition and not dangerous”, with just one pothole fixed.
In March, I then had the opportunity to meet with the Council’s Head of Highways to discuss various issues and raised the Bridle Road. I urged her to reconsider and am pleased to report that following my intervention, Council officers promised to resurface the Bridle Road in June.
I can now confirm that the Council’s Highways team with its principal contractor FM Conway will be commence resurfacing works on the above road between Tuesday 13th June and Thursday 15th June. Gully cleaning will also take place on Wednesday 14th June. The works are expected to be carried out between 08:00 and 17:00.
There will be a road closure to ensure resurfacing works. On-street parking will be suspended so residents are asked to ensure that they make alternative arrangements during the works. Pedestrian access will not be affected, and advance information will be provided before the works commence, advising of the precise dates and times.
I appreciate that some disruption will occur, and residents are advised to use alternative route and allow extra time to complete their journeys.
I am, however, delighted that Council officers have listened and look forward to driving on a much safer road free of cracks and potholes and am grateful to them for their willingness to engage with me. I am also in the process of arranging a meeting with the Highways Team to discuss other roads such as Woodcote Valley Road and Manor Way that have not been included in the Council’s resurfacing programme this year. More to follow on this.
