It was a pleasure to join with Birdgang Ltd, Dance Umbrella and the local community at their rehearsals for their sell out show Family (DYS) Function which takes place this Saturday (Oct 21st) at Stanley Halls. The audience is in for a real treat.
As part of Black History 365 I then joined an Arts and Craft day hosted by the Croydon BME Forum at the Wellness Centre in the Whitgift Centre. It was great to speak with young people and their families as they enjoyed food, craft and time together.
On Thursday (18th Oct), I was transfixed as I listened to the wonderful concert performed by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine at the Fairfield Halls. Preceding the concert a flag raising ceremony took place outside the Town Hall. Residents and students, who have fled the war in Ukraine and found safety in Croydon, joined with us and the most moving moment of my week happened as spontaneous singing of the Ukrainian National Anthem took place as their flag was raised over Croydon.
