Last Monday we had the Armed Forces flag day at the start of Armed forces week, when the whole country recognises the huge debt owed to the armed forces who defend our country and the sacrifices so many of them make.
We were honoured by the attendance of the Queen's representative in Surrey Col. Ray Wilkinson (known as the Deputy Lieutenant) who gave a moving speech about the substantial contribution the forces have made and continue to make, for example in the distribution of Covid-19 vaccines all over the UK. There were seven Conservative councillors present but it was disappointing that only the Mayor and one other Labour councillor turned up.
