One of the pleasures for anyone living close to the London - Brighton Road is the sight of the annual veteran car rally passing right through our area, and today was no exception.
Hundreds of very ancient vehicles, some dating back to 1897, participate in this annual rally which runs from Hyde Park to Brighton. The rally was started to commemorate the repeal in 1896 of the 1865 Locomotive Act also known as the Red Flag Act, which until that date had required all mechanically powered vehicles to be preceded on the road by a person carrying a Red Flag (or lantern)!
The vehicles set off from 08:00 on the first Sunday of every November in the order of their date of manufacture, but the older ones are soon overtaken by relative youngsters, and it's really interesting to see how vehicle design has evolved so quickly.
Here are just a few photos of the hundreds of magnificent vehicles participating this year.
