Cllr Andy Stranack (Shadow Cabinet Member for Safer Croydon, Communities and Business Recovery) met with the Palace for Life Team last week to hear about all the amazing charity does to provide services to local residents in Croydon and the wider South London area. Andy commented:-
" It was really good to meet the team from Palace for Life. Crystal Palace Football Club bring joy and occasional heartache to so many supports as they watch the fortunes of our local premiership team. The work that Palace do in the community is slightly less well publicised. Everyday the Palace for Life team are running their:-
- Community Kicks programme - that involves hard to reach young people in sport.
- Disability Sport- helping those with disabilities to stay active and fit and enjoying the excitement of being part of a team.
- Family Health and Wellbeing – Offering physical activity and health and well being sessions in social settings.
- Primary School Sessions – Working with teachers to provide the Stars programme that helps deliver the National Curriculum and the Stepping Stones programme that helps young people transition from primary to secondary school.
- Post 16 and Employment project – using sport to help young people to develop job skills and CV’s and helping them move into the job market or further education.
- Woman and Girls sessions – targeted events that encourage woman and girls to get involved in sport and stay fit.
- Targeted support – 1-2-1 mentoring sessions for young people involved with the criminal justice system to help get their lives on track.
The depth and breath of the work that Crystal Palace are doing in the community is truly awe inspiring. To find out more about their work you can visit the Palace for Life website at https://www.palaceforlife.org “.
