Cllr Andy Stranack (Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture) joined Cat Loriggio (Artistic Director for Croydon Borough of Culture) and a packed house at Stanley Arts last night (20th May) to take part in the Commons Festival 23.
The event which runs from the 15th -28th May is a celebration of dance and movement from across the community in Croydon, with a series of workshops, exhibitions and events. Last night marked the Commons Extravaganza which kicked off with a performance by EGGZ and featured performances from Birdgang, Thick and Tight with the Corali Dance Company and DOLO, as well as new compositions from Mathangi Kerhavan, community group SE19 Dance Project, Oliver Chapman and Hannah Ekholm.
Andy commented
“Last night the Borough of Culture again shone a spotlight on the rich diversity and cultures that make up Croydon through a dance extravaganza. A particular highlight for me was the entertaining and amusing ‘Ode to Edith’ performed by Thick and Tight with Corali Dance Company.
It was great to see the venue packed out for the performance and I must thank the whole team at Stanley Arts for making everyone feel so welcome. If you get the chance please get down to the Commons Festival before it ends on the 28th May.”
