At tonight's planning committee meeting, Labour's six councillors (who all have seats in the North or Centre of the borough) voted in favour of four huge blocks of flats totalling 67 homes on Banstead Road just opposite Purley library., while the four Conservative councillors all voted against. As usual, my plea to consider the cumulative impact of all the dozens of developments that have been approved over the last two years were totally ignored, and as usual, there are only a few blue badge parking spaces. Where will the self-employed van drivers or motorcycle couriers be expected to park their vehicles, because not everyone wants or has a car?
Meanwhile, Labour has just announced that Purley Leisure Centre will never re-open even as they impose yet more residents on this area, right next door to the Mosaic Place development of another 220 flats, and the 50 or so over the road at 1-9 Foxley Lane. Where are the extra school & surgery places?
It's time for change...
