It was a great pleasure to join the Bishop of Croydon, the Vicar of St Francis, the congregation, the local MP and visitors from further afield to celebrate sixty year anniversary of the church of St Francis in Monks Hill. After a service in the church we were served a delicious meal in the newest addition to the Church's facilities, the Lighthouse.
Built at a cost of £18,000 and opened in the autumn of 1962, the church was dedicated by the Archbishop of Canterbury. Since then, over the sixty years of its existence the church has grown and developed its services to the community including the Foodstop, social events and youth work. Enormous credit is due to the Vicar, the Reverend Peter Wyatt, those who work with him, and the congregation for all that has been achieved and continues to be achieved.
