I am very pleased to have received a notification from the Council's planning team that an application for the demolition of a family home at 25 Pampisford Road has been refused by officers and full reports can be found here.
The application was to erect a three-storey building comprising of six flats and I was contacted by a number of residents expressing their concerns. I therefore submitted a referral expressing my opposition and would have been prepared to speak against this application if officers had recommended approval.
Chris Philp MP and the Purley & Woodcote Residents Association also objected.
I am grateful to Council officers for recognising that this application was inappropriate on a road heavily impacted by overdevelopment. In their refusal, officers highlighted the height of the proposed development, being significantly higher than their immediate neighbours. They said it would appear as a “large, awkward and unsympathetic addition” and that the application failed to respect the character of the area. The application did not adhere to the principles of the London Plan and Croydon Local Plan.
Thank you to local residents who lodged objections demonstrating the strength of feeling locally.
We are seeing more and more refusals of inappropriate development under this Conservative administration, but I will continue to remain vigilant and refer applications as and when necessary.
