The long-running and controversial planning application for 2 & 4 Kenley Lane has been dismissed at appeal. With 408 objections to the application, 3 in favour, a referral from Ward Councillor Kolade, and significantly a decision against from Croydon’s Planning Officers, the Planning Inspectorate dismissed the appeal on 10th July 2023.
The application was for the demolition of two residential dwellings and erection of a development comprising a new Doctor's surgery with 25 flats, up to six storeys high, with associated access and parking.
The full decision notice from the Planning Inspectorate is worth reading and can be summarised by concerns with:
- The effect of the proposed development on the character and appearance of the area
- the parking, drop-off, servicing and delivery arrangements
- whether or not there is appropriate cycle parking provision.
The Planning Inspector had significant concerns with all three of these aspects.
As Ward Councillors for Kenley, both Gayle and Ola were pleased to read the decision from the Planning Inspectorate and look forward to the next iteration of the Croydon Local Plan which we believe will have a much greater focus on character rather than density.
