Jeet Bains is your Councillor in Addiscombe East ward where he has lived for more than thirty years. Jeet has been a Councillor in Croydon since 2010 and takes a keen interest in helping local residents and businesses with any issues they have.
Luke Shortland was elected as Councillor for Coulsdon Town in 2022. One of the things Luke loves about Coulsdon is the real variety of shops in the town centre, with everything from a pottery café (where he got his first Saturday job over seven years ago!) to a candle shop.
Lynne Hale has lived in Sanderstead for 30 years. She worked locally as a healthcare professional for over twenty years before, having settled her three children into their Croydon schools, she moved into politics.
Yvette Hopley has lived in and around Sanderstead all her life. From an education in a local state school she went on to spend almost ten years working in public and government relations for an American Oil company. Yvette lives with Chris and has a daughter Natasha and grandson Hugh.
Living in Croydon all of my life has instilled a strong sense of passion for Croydon and its future. I have always been active in many of the local campaigns and projects, growing up in an area which prides itself on its Community spirit, and the ability to show a united front against issues that are important to the local residents.
Maria Gatland has lived and worked in South Croydon for more than 30 years. During that time she helped run the family business and cared for her husband during his long illness. Maria has worked hard to help and support residents in her ward since 2002.
Mayor Jason Perry joined with Cllr. Andy Stranack (Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture) and over 300 guests from across London to celebrate the launch of ‘This is Croydon’ on 14th March at Box Park.

This budget is challenging, none of us like voting for a 15% Council tax increase. However the Mayor has set out his key priorities in the Mayors business plan.
Firstly, we need to sort out the financial mess left by the previous Labour administration.

The previous Labour administration left a housing service in very poor shape and this is strongly reflected in the Budget papers.
They left behind hundreds of residents in appalling living conditions deeming it somehow acceptable to completely ignore them

Thank you for the opportunity to speak on the budget this evening. For Adult Social Care we are able to present a balanced budget and in fact have achieved an underspend for the current year, which has taken a significant amount of time and effort by officers and their teams.

Can I start by thanking officers right across the Council for their work in producing the budget before us today, particularly those in the finance team.
The response to this petition was in no way a surprise. We share the anger and frustration of residents at the proposed council tax rise. It is not something that we want to do but it is still the best of the options available to us.
This council has a legal duty to produce a balanced budget.
