Helen Pollard has been a Councillor since 2006. She represented Heathfield ward (which included Monks Hill and Addington Village) from 2006 to 2010 and was elected as a Councillor for Fairfield ward in 2014. Following the review of ward boundaries, Helen is once again standing for election to represent residents in the Seldson area.
Married, and with two children, Helen is a firm believer in the delivery of good quality public services but also believes that they should be run efficiently to ensure the council tax payer gets value for money.
Helen regularly attends meetings of resident associations, councillor surgeries and handles ad hoc casework as it arises. She has experience of sitting on Licencing and Planning Committees and is a governor of John Ruskin College. She was a governor of the Quest Academy from 2010 to 2014.
In May 2016 Helen was appointed Shadow Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport.
Helen is a marketing professional with experience in the insurance industry and education and her interests include playing tennis, the arts, and spending time at home with her family.
Now semi-retired I moved with my family from Fulham to South Croydon in 2006 whilst still working full time in Central London. Originally from an engineering background I latterly specialised in projects to improve the safety, efficiency and quality of business services. I am an experienced decision analyst and a certified Project Manager. Although our children have now left home, some still live in the Borough, as does my grandson.
My main focus as Councillor will be to preserve and enhance the communities of Selsdon and Addington Village and to improve the quality and efficiency of services provided to Croydon's people by Croydon Council.
I write regularly for the Croydon Citizen and sit on the Governing Board of The Federation of Heavers Farm Primary School and Selsdon Primary School.
