Cllr  Steve Hollands

Steve Hollands is a Croydon man having lived in the borough more or less his whole life. Steve's family have been connected to Croydon since the late 19th century. Living in north Croydon until the late eighties and now in Purley with his wife and two children. Steve has a strong affinity with Croydon as a whole. Steve has been a Kenley councillor since 1998 and has campaigned locally to keep both Kenley and Purley a green and pleasant place in which to live. Steve's current main council responsibilty is as a member of the Council' s Planning Committee but has held various positions over the years including cabinet member and chairman of the council's scrutiny overview committee. Steve was very pleased to be asked to stand in for the new ward of Old Coulsdon. Steve has worked closely with Councillors Chris Wright and Margaret Bird over many years and knows Old Coulsdon well. Former Coulsdon East Councillor Terry Lenton asked Steve to chair the friends group that kept Marlpit Lane Bowling Green open for public use. Steve found that the volunteers worked incredibly hard to get the bowling up an running for its first season and the amount of effort that continues to be needed to keep this valuable local asset open to the public. A key strength of Old Coulsdon are the numerous friends groups and local resident associations that invest so much of their time and energy into the area and without whom Old Coulsdon would be so much the poorer. One of the key elements of representing the residents of Old Coulsdon is to support these local groups. Using his Community Budget Steve was able to support local residents with some additional funding for the Christmas Lights at Tudor Parade and also providing funding for security bollards at the Lacey Green parade of shops. Old Coulsdon is one of the most beautiful and historic parts of the borough and it is a priority to keep it that way. I will do all I can to achieve this.
