Notice from Croydon Council on Footway resurfacing on Stoneyfield Rd
30/01/2018 16:19:00......Posted by Margaret Bird

London Borough of Croydon Place Department Highways Team Bernard Weatherill House 6th Floor, Zone C 8 Mint Walk Croydon CR0 1EA Home owner/Occupier London Borough of Croydon Dear Sir/Madam Footway Surfacing I am writing to inform you that Kier Highways, on behalf of Croydon Council, will shortly be commencing resurfacing at the location/s and date/s below: Date: 13th – 19th February 2018 (excluding weekends) between 08:00- 19:00 Location: Stoneyfield Road To enable the Contractor to undertake the works, on-street parking will be suspended during works hours. We also kindly ask that with forward planning vehicular and pedestrian access to and from properties adjacent to the footway are reduced to a minimum during the works hours. Please speak to the site foreman for any assistance. Advance driver / resident information boards will be in place before the works commence, advising of the precise dates and times of the road restrictions that will be in place. Please however note that unforeseen circumstances (e.g. inclement weather conditions) may necessitate a change to the scheduled dates and information on road signs will be changed accordingly. Please check the road signs regularly for any updates The resurfacing works will take place between O/S House No-13 to Coulsdon Rise and due to the nature of these works it is inevitable that some disruption will occur. For this reason it is recommended that where possible you use alternative routes, or allow extra time to complete your journey. The on-street parking suspensions that will be in place within the works area are 08:00-19:00 on 13th – 19th February 2018 (excluding weekends). No parking for residents on the highway in the areas covered by the enforcement signs. Please note that penalty charge notices (PCN’s) will be applied to vehicles parked within the suspended areas during the works hours and/or vehicles relocated. Due to the above we would urge all residents to ensure that their vehicles are moved from the suspended areas in order to avoid any delays to the works as well as incurring any charges. If your vehicle is relocated please contact the LBC on 020 8726 6000 Ext 52816, who will provide you with an exact location of your vehicle. We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience this may cause residents; however we want to ensure that all works carried out on the Croydon network are to the highest standards to ensure value for our residents. Beware Bogus Callers Croydon Council does not permit its employees or contractors to undertake work on private property during the course of any scheme. If anyone offers such work they will not be a council approved contractor and should be treated with caution. Any scheme undertaken by a council approved contractor does not require cash payments. Cold calling doorstep traders offering to carry out home maintenance work such as driveway repairs and roofing are a problem in Croydon. These traders can be very persuasive and can intimidate you into agreeing to have work undertaken. The advice from Croydon Trading Standards Service is to say “NO” to all cold calling traders – Every Time. If they will not leave or you get into difficulties, then call Croydon Trading Standards on 020 8407 1311 Thank you for your cooperation whilst we carry out this essential upgrade. If you require any further information do not hesitate to contact us by email: or tel: 020 8726 6000 Ext 52816.

Parking survey
16/02/2019 17:16:00.......Posted by Margaret Bird

Today along with Cllr Steve Hollands we delivered a parking survey to residents in Canon's Hill,Deans Walk,Bishops Close,St Johns Hill, Court Ave,Tudor Close and Tudor Parade. This  followed the public meeting we held in November after residents and shopkeepers raised concerns  that the parking in the area had been affected by the changes to the parking allowed in the Tudor Rose PH car park.

We have suggested changes following meeting with Croydon Council and now residents can have their say. Forms should be returned to Cllr Margaret Bird  as per the form. Please contact me if you have any concerns

Update on Marlpit Lane

The vent installation on Marlpit Lane is now not able to be installed due to the number of other services found underground so double drain covers are to be tried instead to alleviate the smells. The two way working will now be in place until Sunday.

Good advice from Old Coulsdon Safer Neighbourhood team
12/01/2019 16:39:00.......Posted by Margaret Bird

Dear Ward Member,As your local police team we are dedicated to working to resolve any policing issues that may be present in your area.Cold calling is something that happens on a daily basis. The caller often pretend to be from legitimate, well-known companies like banks, utilities or the police.

If in doubt simply hang up! Never provide any personal or confidential details such as bank account or credit card details. If you answer an unsolicited telephone call and think that it is a scam then our advice is to:

Obtain the caller’s name

Obtain the company name

Obtain a telephone number

Report the incident to Action Fraud using the online reporting tool at or call 0300 123 2040

Action Fraud is the UK’s fraud and internet crime reporting centre. For advice visit

If an appointment has been made for someone to attend your house then call police on either 999 if it is a police emergency and happening now, or on 101 if it is not an emergency.

Sign up to the Telephone Preference Service ( or 0845 0700707) and the Mail Preference Service ( to minimise unsolicited calls and mail.

Old Coulsdon Centre for Retired on the road
11/01/2019 19:05:00.......Posted by Margaret Bird

Today Cllr Margaret Bird attended the AGM of Old Coulsdon Centre for the Retired . This wonderful facility for those at the upper end of age is open Mon - Fri and led by the centre manager Iris who is definitely very appreciated by those accessing the centre given the comments made to me today. The centre receives a small grant from Croydon Council which is nowhere near the amount needed to run the centre so they are dependent very much on donations especially to keep the mini bus on the road as it is a lifeline for most of the attendees to be able to get to the centre.

Old Coulsdon Centre for the Retired
11/01/2019 16:41:00.......Posted by Margaret Bird

The Centre for the Retired  held their AGM today  and was attended by many of those that use the centre regularly and are lucky enough, in many cases to be collected and returned home by the volunteers who man the mini bus thus preventing social isolation that so often happens with the older generation.

I was lucky enough to be  invitedand was able to talk to the users who all enthused about the centre.

The Centre Manager is Iris,  with the building , finances and mini bus managed by a group of dedicated volunteers and is primarily a drop in and not a lunch club although everyone can get a bite to eat while they are there and there are often parties with more substantial offerings and outings arranged.

Well worth a visit. Volunteers are always wanted!

Message from Old Coulsdon Safer Neighbourhood team
06/01/2019 16:31:00.......Posted by Margaret Bird

Dear Ward Member,

Over the last year we have held an hour long weekly surgery at a set location at the same time of the same day each week.

These surgeries were held to allow residents to come along and talk to the team about local policing issues and concerns.

Due to the very low numbers of attendees, no crimes being reported at these surgeries and the time required by police officers to attend when measured against limited resources and increasing tasks it has been decided that this is not an efficient use of the teams time.

There will not be a fixed point weekly surgery held at the Old Coulsdon Congregational Church on Wednesday 9th or Wednesday 16th January 2019.

We do thank those at the Poppy Café and at the Church for allowing us to hold our surgeries over the last year and we are considering how we go forward in 2019.

If you require to contact police and it is an emergency then please call 999.
If you require to contact police and it is not an emergency then please either call 101 or go online at where you can report incidents or find information on various topics.

If you want to contact the team then please use the email
