|Croydon schools receive biggest funding increase in London|
Justine Greening, the Secretary of State for Education, has today announced the updated National Funding Formula for Schools.
The Funding Formula Fixes in July this year had already added £1.3bn to the schools budget, with many Croydon schools seeing an increase of more than 10%.
Following intense lobbying by Croydon’s Conservative MP Chris Philp, today's formula update sees 5.2% extra funding for Croydon’s schools - over and above standard annual increases and the highest of any London Borough.
The new formula not only increases per pupil funding, but also takes into account the needs of schools catering for special needs children and the alternative provision for those who cannot attend mainstream schools.
There is also funding for Croydon Council to use for their services in support of schools. Croydon Conservatives remain committed to ensuring that these funds are used in the best possible way, focusing resource where our youngest residents need them most.
During the recent General Election campaign, Labour’s Sarah Jones claimed that our schools would be subjected to intense budget cuts. Despite being comprehensively debunked, Jones continued to repeat this claim. To date Ms Jones is yet to welcome the increase in funding for Croydon's schools.
More detail on the changes to the Funding Formula can be found on the Department for Education website.
