At tonight’s Council Meeting Croydon Conservatives announced that a commitment to build homes especially for former members of the Armed Forces will form a key part of their manifesto for the Local Elections being held on 3rd May.
Cllr Lynne Hale, Croydon Conservative Housing Spokesman, said: “I am delighted to make this announcement to build homes in Croydon especially for ex-service men and women. We believe that this is a most fitting way for Croydon to acknowledge and respect those veterans who have served this country.”
The last Conservative administration was the first London Borough to sign the Armed Forces Covenant and appointed the first Borough Military Champion back in 2011. Today’s pledge reaffirms our solid commitment to these brave men and women.
Whilst already given a high priority there are still around 35 veteran households currently on Croydon’s Housing Register and this is really disappointing. We believe that the best way of addressing this is to build homes especially for former members of the Armed Forces.
Cllr Hale comments: “Providing them and their families with a decent roof over their heads is just one small way in which we can begin to repay them.
“The veterans have done their bit for us and we can do our bit for them by offering special help with their housing needs.”
