Heathfield Councillor supports Kick London tournament

100 young people came from across London take part in Football Tournament at Oasis Shirley Park 9th July.

Hundreds of young people from across London came to Shirley Park Oasis on Saturday to take part in the Annual Kick London Academy Tournament. Kick London is a Charity that has its roots in Croydon. In the last year it has worked in 21 London Boroughs to reach 6,000 young people a week through its work in Academies and Schools.

The Charity works with academies, schools and churches to identify young people who maybe struggling with mainstream schooling. Through one to one mentoring, football coaching and street dancing they will engage with a young person and help them increase their aspiration and excellence in life.

Cllr Andy Stranack has used some of the Heathfield Ward Budget to support the work of Kick London:

“Kick London is a real Croydon Success story. I first heard of the good work that they were doing at Quest Academy, they were working with some challenging and hard to reach pupils and were turning attendance and attainment statistics around through their hard work, compassion and perseverance. ”

“I later learnt that they were doing similar work through St. Francis Church on Monks Hill and at John Ruskin College. I believe that it is this type of grassroots project that the local ward budgets and Croydon Council should get behind. Kick London is a real success story for Croydon.”

“It has been great today to see so many young people take part in a pan London football tournemt. All the young people should be commended for the excellent football skills on show, but also their good behavior both on and off the pitch.”
